IPad 1: Broken transistor in Charging Port Flex Cable

Hi,

I have accidentally broke one of the transistors in the Charging Port Flex Cable of IPAD 1.

I wish to replace the broken transistor but I have no idea what type of transistor is it?

(I'm not 100% sure it's a transistor at all :-))

I wish to buy the original transistor replacement for the ipad but I can live with something similar that will fit in place.

I added a picture of the location of the broken transistor.

Hi davduv, Are you able to give us a close-up of that part or the letter(s) or number(s) that are usually printed on? You might need to take a magnifying glass to be able to read them. Steffen

Hi Steffen,

It seems that there is no printed numbers or anything else on this component.

This component on the board is surrounded by something that looks like a black glue (maybe Epoxy glue), I took this component to my place of work (Electronic factory) and cleaned this component from the glue residue by melting the glue with iron solder.

with the microscope we have I didn't success to see any printing on this component but I just ordered a new microscope from eBay and I hope he will do a much better job then the microscope we have at work.

For now I don't know what component it is.

Hi davduv, is it possible for you to take a close-up anyways and to post it? Maybe someone else will recognize it. Steffen

I don't have a way to do that in that moment, the new microscope will arrive maybe 2 weeks from now, I hoped that someone will recognize by the picture I uploaded.

I'll update the post if I find something or when the microscope will arrive and then I'll post a very very close up picture :-) .

In the worst case I'll have to buy a new Charging Port Flex Cable

Hi,

The microscope has arrived and I have some pictures of the component and the board:

Any idea what is the component in the first picture?

Do you think the "broken" component is actually a working component and all I have to do is solder it?

The most important question:

Do you think the component may not be necessary for the functionality of the ipad?
