Newly installed battery not recognizing

I just followed the ifixit instructions to replace my battery with a new one. It will not boot when the power button is pressed. If I hook up a thunderbolt power cable it will boot and run very slowly. The battery icon shows an “X”. I have tried resetting both the SMC and the PRAM. I don’t if it actually reset them, but I have followed a few versions of instructions to do so. I will hook up a volt meter to the new battery tomorrow to see if it has a charge maybe. Pretty frustrated. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks!!!

Volt meter is useless to confirm if the battery is good or not. I guess you cant get a reading on the + and - without the computer sending power. I can go through the process to put the original battery back in and see if it still works, but that's a lot of work for a test.

This series is dependent on the BMU data flex cable, if it's not correctly seated or damaged the BMU logic can't see the battery. Check to make sure the ZIF connector latches are set and the cable was inserted properly before setting the latch. If you bent it back too far you can damage needing to replace it.

Thanks for the tip! Everything looks correct there. I just took the cable off and then reinstalled it. Unfortunately the issue persists. If all else fails i can buy a new cable and try that.

UPDATE! I tried the new data flex cable and it did not fix the issue. I was frustrated so I put this project to the side. The computer with the replacement battery sat on my desk for the last couple weeks and I didn't touch it. I went to turn it on last night and now it works perfect. I have no idea why it works now, but it does and I didn't do anything. Could it have been holding some kind of charge that needed to fall off? No clue, but it works now.

haha. I do think my house is haunted. so maybe the ghost fixed it.
