Repair guides, support, and troubleshooting information for the first 13-inch MacBook Air to feature Apple's ARM-based M1 SoC (with an 8-core CPU and up to an 8-core GPU). Released in November 2020 and identified by model numbers A2337 or EMC 3598.

Is it possibe to replace the rubber dust gasket around the display?

It leaves residue on the body. It's also made the lid sticky to open after the machine's been left closed for a few hours.

Apple doesn't offer the part outside of the full display assembly.

I do find it odd as the silicon of the gasket shouldn't be marking the uppercase.

Are you using a cleaner or other product to clean your system, keyboard and maybe the screen it's self which is the true issue here.

I found this on Aliexpress- https://www.aliexpress.com/i/10050033022...

The part is available to buy, I just don't know how to go on about it.

I have never used any cleaning product of any kind. I use a slightly damp microfiber cloth to clean the machine. Also, I am very careful to not apply any pressure on the rubber.

I live in a tropical country, I suspect the temperature and humidity did this.

I have seen this on rubber seals on windows as well.

@repairmaus - Maybe a good clean might be all you need. Gets some 70~90% isopropyl alcohol and a lint free cloth wiping it down both the case and the lid and maybe some screen cleaner for that. In any case dampen the cloth don't spray and not to wet either. I'm thinking it's just skin oils and sweat that is collecting the dirt.

Let's try that first! Good find on the gaskets.

I have done this on a few MacBook Pro 13" A1502 Models from 2013-2015 and I think (But cannot confirm) that the process would be very similar. You have to 1st THOROUGHLY remove the old gasket by trying to peel it out or by scraping it out (RISKY), and then simply press fit in the new one (I DO NOT do the full rubber along the very bottom of the display anymore as this is stuck to the displays glass which is super fragile) and just cut that part off. It is quite tricky and delicate work as one 'error' and you can easily scratch or even crack the displays glass, a thin plastic spludger is the best tool for this, tedious yes, but it is do able. There are some videos that show how it is done so I would advise to check them out before thinking about it. The rubber gasket on older retina models is prone to go 'dry' and flaky causing it to also fall off easily. Not sure how yours has become 'sticky' but we MUST avoid always to wipe it or get any substances on it as that can do it harm.
