Repair guides and disassembly information for the 14-inch MacBook Pro released in October of 2021, featuring Apple-designed M1 Pro and M1 Max SoCs. Model A2442.

After renewed the battery the touchpad and keypad doesn’t work anymore

After I replaced a new battery for my MacBook Pro 14 inch 2021 the touchpad wand key pad doesn’t work anymore.

When I start the MacBook up I can’t type anything in the field where normally type the password

Also the mouse is not moving , only the button that is working is the power button on the keypad.

When I hold this it will switched off and if I do a combination keys for starting in recovery mode works either.

Should this be the problem of the small cable that is connected from the battery to the motherboard or the wide cable from the touchpad to the motherboard.

For my opinion the band cables is correct connected.

There is a possibility that the cable has been somewhat bent or damaged, you need to closely inspect the thin pins that connect to the connection on the board, some of them may have been bent or similar causing a bad connection. Try to find a microscope or spy glass to inspect them closer. That would be my 1st point of call.

I have checked the pins of the small cable the contact pins looks fine. But the strange thing is only the power button works the other keys don’t. The lights from the keyboard is working. But can it be that the touchpad is damaged or broken. I have inspected the touchpad by take it out and I see some scratches and a little bit of some isolating lose. I think this is happened by removing the battery from the MacBook by using a tool under the battery to lifting it up. But at the other hand has the small cable to do with the touchpad so that either keyboard and touchpad not working or is only the small cable for the keyboard and the big wide cable only for the touchpad? Hope that both is not broken.

@johanveekens I have had this before (On a MB Air), the Power button and a couple of keys worked fine, but some others keys not, on a closer look there was some corrosion & some damaged pins on the cable. A new keyboard cable to the board did the trick for me. These are quite delicate and a small bend or crease can break some lines. The pins that go into the connector can easily get separated and bent thus not making the correct connection needed for full function.

ok thnx , i will order first the small cable , hopefully I can order one on ifixit, if it still doesn't work then maybe replace the trackpad.

By the way when you had this problem your mouse trackpad isn't work either?

@johanveekens It depends on which pins are faulty or damaged on the cables to affect TP or KB keys. I would go for replacing the cable that conects to the logic board 1st.
