Repair guides and disassembly information for the MacBook Pro 16'' released in November of 2019. Model A2141, EMC 3347.

I ripped a connector, which one is it and am I screwed?

I accidentally ripped a connector/cable during repair. It tore in half, I guess duct tape won't do in this case... Which cable is it and can it easily be replaced or am I screwed? (Besides having to take it apart again...).

Apears to just be a fan cable, remove the fan and if it is that cable order a new one and replace it

@boydenhartog - Apple has produced quite a few different models can you tell us the exact model look at the bottom cover to locate the model locate the A number and paste it hereEveryMac - Lookup then let us know what you have so we can figure out what's needed.

Just had a lookk, Its the A2141

@boydenhartog Advise not to use tweezers to pull out these type of cables as tweezers are prone to kink, crease or tear them quite easily, Personally I just remove the fans screws, lift out the fan and gently pull them out and away from the un latched connector, reversing the process when re assembling them ;)

I did some research, I think it's the keyboard backlight. I don't really care about that so hopefully it will turn back on without issues when I put it back together.

Sadly you did tear the keyboard back light cable. This model has two connections! One on each side, here's an image of the US version of the part

I've marked the cable in question

You are right! I just tested it, both fans are spinning, no backlight. Now I need to solve my OS problem, getting only a black screen :D

@danj Out of curiosity, seeing that it was the backlight cable that was broken, and let's say it was still connected, would or could that lead to other potential issues as some power lines would be injecting voltage to the backlight and others not, as @boydenhartog is now saying he is only getting a black screen. It would be better to not have the backlight connected at all right (both connections)?

@livfe - If the cable was still active then there could be a short which could effect the displays power rail within the logic board logic. If left disconnected than that wouldn't be a risk directly but if it was connected and powered then something could have been damaged.

Bottom line this will need some deeper diagnostics referencing the schematics and board view drawings and checking the rails.

@danj I had a hunch that connecting a damaged cable would have some kind of negative kick back..... I think this has caused his black screen issue.

The cable was torn completely, so it wasn't connected. However, I'm unable to boot into the OS. The only thing that works is the PRAM reset, I hear the chime but no apple logo. It also doesn't power off anymore when I hold the button, but when I pull the adapter cable out it turns off immediately. Might be related to the OS (I installed linux on it) but not sure. Any ideas how to proceed?
