Repair guides and disassembly information for the MacBook Pro 16'' released in November of 2019. Model A2141, EMC 3347.

Why does my monitor turn off when I plug in this cable?

I spilled some water inside my computer vent hole, cleaned the whole inside and it works again fine, but when I plug in the last cable that comes from the hinge to the motherboard, the computer shuts down. I'm thinking this cable is the one that tells the computer to sleep when the laptop is shut, but it seems very clean but it still shuts it down when I plug it in. Any ideas?

Can anyone tell me what this cable is even called?

Step 13 MacBook Pro 16" 2019 Teardown may answer your question.

Apple Put a Hinge Sensor in the 16″ MacBook Pro. What Could It Be For?

@danj maybe able to give some more info on this & how you can solve this calibration task.

@livfe is correct this is a lid sensor which has two functions one to turn off the display backlight to conserve power and to enable the external display as the primary display Vs the internal which can't be seen being closed.

From your description it sounds like something has been damaged either within the sensor or the circuitry within the logic board.

Replacing the sensor is the easiest to try I would do that, here's the needed part MacBook Pro 16" Lid Angle Sensor you will need to align it by carefully rotating the magnet. But let's first see if the system responds correctly at all opening and closing the lid. If it doesn't then the logic board needs repairs from the liquid spill.
