Since you didn't specify what year your 850 is, I randomly picked the 1995 model. This diagram shows you the location of the blower motor resistor.
NOTE: H2 is the Fan Resistor.
This page gives service information, but also notes that it's only applicable to manual climate control; if you have the automatic climate control system this may not be correct for your car.
If your car has the ECC, or Electronic Climate Control system, then it doesn't have a blower motor resistor. This page describes the operation of the blower motor for that system.
It looks like the information is the same for all the years they list, but you can manually navigate to the correct year for your car to verify that.

You now can also find a service manual that is searchable etc. for the same vehicle under the Documents Tab on this page 1993-1997 Volvo 850
