Harddrive is not being read by Mac and disk utility

I recently got a Macbook from a friend since the were going to throw it out and Im pretty handy with my macbook unibody changed the keyboard, hard drive ram, and camera but I've never used the white A1181 before. I put a new hard drive didn't work...popped in Leopard held the C key booted it up went to disk utility. No Hardrive insight, tried several times. I don't know if I should buy a MacBook Hard Drive Cable because i don't know if thats the only thing messed up so what should I do

Did it all work OK from the Leopard disk, Is the Leopard disk a retail version or gray disk? What the make and model of the new hard drive ( is it a 3 Gb/s drive)?

You should first check if the hard drive is bad. I know you wrote it was new! Do you have another hard drive you can test first? Usually is not the hard drive cable.

I always use a cable like this so I can test the drive as an external unit on a Mac that is working. Not saying it could also be the hard drive cable but confirm the disk is ok first.

I have this macbook and my unibody one I used the new one my macbook and booted it with a retail Leopard CD and it worked perfectly...Disk utility was able to see it on my unibody macbook but the A1181 dosent

Remove the Topcase from the MacBook . you Will the Motherboard and hard drive there inside. Remove the hard drive and put back inside properly . just push from the back side , sometime hard drive jack is not properly connected with the cable then power up if works then gud otherwise remove the cable from logic board and clean both the jacks ont he logic board and cable one. Sometime it will work , after these steps change the Hard drive cable inside. BEst Of LuCK..
