Will RAM from MacBook Pro (Mid 2009) work in the 27" iMac (Late 2009)?

I have a MacBook Pro (June-2009 version) 3.06 GHz with 2x2GB memory (DDR3, 1066 MHz, 204pin, SO-DIMM, PC3-8500).

Now, I have ordered the new iMac 27" Quad Core i7, 2,8 GHz.

My question is this:

Can I use the memory capsules from the Pro in the iMac? I plan to upgrade the pro to 2x4GB and it would be nice to get extra memory into the iMac as well.

Edited because Apple never has and probably never will make a 27 foot iMac.

too bad about the 27 foot iMac :(

but enjoy your Core i7 iMac - it's a real screamer!

According to Mactracker, the new iMac uses 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMMs, which sounds like what you have. (Mactracker is awesome, by the way -- check it out here: http://mactracker.dreamhosters.com/ )

Below are the Apple Store webpages for the memory modules they offer for the units that you mentioned.

I don't see a 2.8GHz among the current iMacs, but you're probably safe with this memory regardless of processor speed.

Looks to me like the memory they sell for those models are the same, so I'd say you're safe using the same memory.

Leah: the 2.8GHz 27" iMac *is* a current model iMac - it's the one with the Core i7 processor, a build-to-order option

I just installed 10min ago, 2 modules de 1GB coming from my Macbook Pro 2009 unibody with PC8500, 1066 DDR3 into the 2 empty slots of my imac 27". Now all four slots are filled and the iMac has 6GB.

OSX recognize it without any problems.

Tested with TechTool Pro 5.0 zero problems.

It looks that configuration is going to work.

Enjoy.

Happy new year to all out there.

I have the 2 DIMMS that I replaced in my Macbook Pro 15inch late 2008 (1 Gbyte each) installed in my intel iMac 27inch, with no problem.

Then, yes, is possible.

OK, finally I ordered the new 4GB DIMM's for my MBP and installed the. The existing 2GB DIMM's went straight into my iMac-27" and it worked like a charm. No glitches whatsoever. Having 8GB available in both my Mac's makes the cost for the new 2*4GB feel a lot less painful. Thanks for the help provided everyone!
