blinking gray folder with question mark and now completely dead

Please help! Hi! I started up my macbook and the gray folder with question mark apppears, so I inserted my 10.4 OS DVD rebooted pressed c, nothing. The folder appeared again. I resetted the pram, pretty much everything, and nothing. So I have an OS 10.6.4 disc I inserted no more folder it actually took me to the main screen couldn't run it because its not compatiable. But I am able 2 get the utlity option screen. That was last nite 2day I tried 2 turn on and nothin completely dead! Help! My macbook is in a horrible comma!!! Oh and I also noticed it was getting warmer than usual above from the keyboard. Thank u.

The flashing folder is Apple's way of telling you the computer can not locate a system (OS) folder. You need to find/purchase a valid install or boot/hardware disk''. You may have multiple problems

thank you machead, question I am looking for the disk, should I Accept your answer or wait until my disk arrives run it and see the outcome? Don't know how long it's going to take for me to find and actually receive the disk.

You can accept it now, or latter. You can come back with updates or comments once you locate the disk and see what more you know. OR, if appropriate, start a whole new Question.
