Where is the fan sensor on ps3

so i had a loud fan problem on my ps3 so ive cleaned it all out its like brand new, i then put a new thin layer of mx4 thermal paste on the gpu/cpu and new thermal pads on those other things,

i then had a problem with power supply which is now fixed so the ps3 runs fine but the fan still goes mental so i turned it off and pulled the hardrive out and turned it back on the fan was as quiet as brand new but obviously i need the harddrive so my question is ..........

where is the sensor that tells the fan to speed up its must be faulty or is it a software problem with the hardrive i dnt know please help

michael, The fan is PWM controlled so that third wire, the grey one, is used to control the fan speed. The voltage for the brown wire should always be at 12v and Black is the ground. Check this site here for more info. The issue here is that the fan controller gets input from various thermistors to respond to increased temperatures at various locations. You could trace the circuits via the diagram and check the thermistors etc, or you could try to modify your fan via a separate fan controller. Here is a pretty good mod for that. Hope this helps, good luck.

I am having the same problem. I can’t seem to figure it out. Sometimes the system is on for 10-15 minutes and seems fine. Other times, just before xmb pops up I get a “system is too hot” warning and it shuts down. I have taken apart the console many times. I think I will have to re-ball the CPU GPU or…Figure out these temperature sensors that are giving off false signals and are in turn shutting down my console. The console isn’t even hot when it turns off. This made me believe it isn’t the chips and it’s the sensors that need work. Any help would be appreciated!

Now…I did watch a video where I guy had told me that the model CECHH01 has a really bad power supply and that he swapped his out and the system was running great. I am willing to try and find a new power supply if above doesn’t work. Work in progress here…
