Background and Identification
Gamma counters, also known as scintillation counters, are devices that are used to measure Gamma radiation in small doses. In a typical test, technicians place a radioactive substance in a sealed test tube and move it down a track. The test tube enters a detector, where Gamma rays interact with a scintillation crystal which emits light relative to the incoming radiation from the sample. The light is then picked up by a photodetector and converted to an electrical signal for analysis.
