Repairing a 2007 Hyundai Sonata cabin air filter will help the air flow in the car become cleaner and it may save gas for the user. It is a quick and easy repair that takes about seven different steps, and two steps to put everything back together. This repair does not include any tools, all that is needed isa new cabin air filter that can be picked up at a local auto store. It costs about $18 to repair.

Make sure the car is off and the passenger door is open.

Locate the indent on the inner side of the door.

Open the glove box, and make sure nothing is in there.

Next, gently push down until it comes loose from the clips on the left and right.

Once the glove box is loose, locate latches, on the left and right top and bottom corners, and pinch together, at the same time, to free the air filter.

Place the new air filter in the square and push the four corners to lock it into place.

Next, place the dash cover, taken off in the first step, back into its location; listening for three clicks.

I haven’t tried it yet, but the instructions appear very good.
I got the filter out. There is a rod with a spring that connects to the passenger side of the glove compartment door that had to be detached from the door and then put back on for reassembly. Took a bit of tugging to get the door open and the filter drawer out. There has been a very bad smell for weeks. So it was not a surprise that there was a rodent nest on top of the filter. The filter was black and smelled terribly. Still don’t know how the rodent got into the filter chamber from the outside. We’re fairly sure that it got in, when the car sat in the hospital parking lot for a few days a month or so ago, while my wife was suddenly admitted for two lung blood clots. There was no visible carcass, but it could still be in the duct work between outside and the filter, if the terrible odor persists.
