A majority of people bring their cars into repair shops when they need something as basic as an oil change done. This guide will encourage iFixit users to develop some confidence while working with their vehicle and will allow them to do basic repairs on their 2013 Subaru Legacy. It will begin with the basic setup of getting the car into position and then show how to go about emptying the oil pan that is on the Legacy. After the oil pan is empty, this guide will cover the process of how to go about adding in the new oil and replacing the oil filter. In the end, users should walk away with the ability to successfully replace both their oil and oil filter on their 2013 Subaru Legacy.

Once your Legacy is completely empty of oil, clean off the bolt and washer and tighten them by hand until you can't turn it anymore.

On a 2013 Subaru Legacy the oil filter should be by the battery. Loosen the oil filter by hand if possible. If not, use an oil wrench or a crescent wrench to loosen it.
-
Clean the tray around the oil filter after you remove it with a paper towel.
-
-
-
Rub a little bit of the new oil you bought onto the new oil filter's gasket.
-
Screw on the new oil filter by hand until it is tight. You don't have to use the wrench to tighten the filter.

Remove the dipstick and clean it. Then reinsert it and remove it again and ensure the second dot on the end of the dipstick is touched by oil.
