The nickel metal hydrate battery stores electric charge through a chemical reaction when current is conducted through the electrodes. Now, you'll hold this latch to the left. Everything is unlatched. The battery should feel free.

While continuing to hold the latch in the open position, use your other hand to push the battery away from the device to remove it.
