Hello all, this guide is meant to show you how to replace the motherboard on the Astro A40 TR plus Mixamp M80 gaming headset for xbox devices. This details the disassembly, and replacement of the main motherboard for this headset. This repair guide will enable you to save your headset if the motherboard gets damaged or is non-functional. For a quick overview, you will only need simple tools, ( a type 000 screwdriver anda spudger) in order to complete this repair, along with a replacement motherboard.


  1. Use your hand to firmly grasp the cushion and remove it from the speaker. Repeat the process for the other side if needed.

    • The best place to grip it is where there is a tab sticking out. The tab will make it easier to remove.

    • When reassembling, note the curvature of the cushion to determine whether it's the left or the right cushion.

  2. Slide the plastic spudger beneath the dust cover of the speaker. Lift the dust cover up with the plastic spudger. Using your fingers, completely remove the dust cover from the speaker.

  3. Use a screwdriver with a J1+ bit to unscrew four 5 mm screws from the speaker protector. Then, use your hands to remove the speaker protector. Then, use your hands to remove the speaker protector.

  5. Use your fingers to hold the wire located by the covered part, and gently lift it out of its cradle. Carefully use your fingers to disconnect the colored wires connected to the Motherboard (the green chip located underneath, and to the right of the covered wire).

To reassemble your device, first ensure the new replacement motherboard has been installed (by going through the directions in reverse), and then by retracing the steps backwards. This will ensure that your headset will be properly reassembled.
