For this replacement, the front, back and top covering of the Canon EOS 40D camera must be removed to get to the shutter button. Necessary tools for this replacement include a philips J000 screwdriver, a plastic opening tool, and a pair of precision tweezers. This replacement is moderately to highly involved and should be allotted at least one hour.

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the camera below the shutter button.

  11. Pull off the cover.

Thanks for these instructions. I've successfully replaced the shutter button assembly on my Canon 50d using this guide.

Thank you for the tutorial. I don’t know how to replace the button. Which glue to use ? Must it scratch the connections on the flex circuit before gluing the new button ?
