The LaCie Grand is a big chunk of metal. Be sure to provide yourself a steady working surface and disconnect all peripherals before attempting any repairs.

Flip the device on its back to reach a pair of silicon strips. The strips are glued to the chassis and cover four screws which need to be exposed in order to continue disassembly. Applying a small amount of alcohol (96%) will dissolve the glue whilst still retaining most of the adhesive properties.

A careful removal with the alcohol will help you to keep most of the glue intact. Remember to keep these areas clean so you can later reuse the glue strips.

With the four screws exposed you are now able to remove these with a Philips screwdriver. Store the screws in a safe place. All screws are of a similar type, so it is not necessary to mark their original locations.

After removing the screws you will be able to expose the internal hardware which is carrying the hard drive. Carefully slide out the chassis from either the front or the back. There are no obstructions anywhere, so this part is only affected by your personal preference.

Since the previous steps were performed upside-down to preserve the glue strips, you can now flip the internals back to their original position and gaze at the magnificent hardware.

The front part can be disconnected without much effort. Just carefully pry open the clamps, using a small piece of plastic or some manual dexterity.

Repeat the previous step for the back part. This step is actually optional, but it may prevent any damage to the plastic if you happen to drop the hardware.

The adapter component is held to the chassis by two small screws. It may feel tempting to remove these and slide the adapter to the back, but doing so will damage the adapter because it is immobilized by a small pin on the bottom-side of the chassis.

After removing the warranty-void label, you will find one screw a bit bulkier than the other three. Remember to place this back in its correct position. All screws can be removed with the same Philips screwdriver.

Slide out the hard drive in a smooth forward motion, lifting it up gently to avoid scratching the LED board on the front. I noticed the LED-cable in my LaCie drive was stuck and mildly compressed. This never affected the drive, but remember to correct these small manufacturing errors as you come across them.

Can I say Thank you! Guess I need to buy another Tool kit from you guys.
I have been backing up all my old media for the past few days, and USB-2 is JUST not cutting it.
Plus I only have one of the MINI-USB (the first one that came out before MICRO).
Putting it on a SATA PORT is just the way to go! Even still?
800-900 GB is still taking a long time if you have a BUNCH of small files.
