    • Switch off your phone.

    • Prepare an iOpener for softening the adhesive on the back of the Note8.

    • Apply the iOpener on the back of the Note8 along the side with the power button.

I used a heat gun to soften the glue - worked it around the edges, moving the heat gun quickly. As this is my first attempt, I’m still calibrating on this - but other guides mention getting the back cover hot enough so as it’s just too hot to touch. I also have a temp probe on my multi-meter, and I measured appx. 75 deg. C.

One of the other guides showed using a electronics hot plate set to 105 deg C for 60 sec.

    • Use a suction handle to lift the back cover and create an opening pick to get in the gap.

    • Since the back cover is also slightly curved at the edges you want to insert the opening pick at a lower angle from underneath.

    • Start at the middle of the side and cut the adhesive while pulling up with the suction handle.

    • Be careful not to lever the opening pick too much to avoid breaking the back cover. Rather pull with the suction handle and use the pick for cutting the adhesive.

    • Move the pick towards the bottom corner and leave it there to keep the adhesive from resealing to the case.

    • Use another pick and move it to the top corner.

    • If it's getting harder to move the pick you might need to reheat the iOpener and apply it to the back cover again.

I used an X-acto knife with the flat blade to get it started. I tried using the suction cup - but it’s difficult to get good leverage. Once I got the cover started - I used the metal pry tool (sharpened with a dremel file) and a business card to work it open.

This is definitely the hardest part.

    • Again take another opening pick and carefully move it around the corner and along the top edge.

    • Reheat with an iOpener if necessary.

    • Leave the pick at the top right corner to keep the adhesive from resealing.

    • When the adhesive has been separated on all three sides properly you will be able to slowly lift the back cover.

    • Don't force it open. Use an iOpener to again soften the adhesive if the back cover won't come off or starts to bend.

    • Pay attention to the fingerprint sensor connector when flipping the back cover open. You might need to disconnect it as described in the next step.

I broke the back camera cover for the NUT 8 and then I bought a commercial cover and installed it but the quality of the picture became very bad and my question is, do you know where to get the original cover at a reasonable price?

    • Use a pair of tweezers to disconnect the fingerprint sensor.

    • The connector might already have come off when flipping the back cover open.

don't skip disconnecting the sensor, even if isn't still glued to the case. it has to move away from the NFC/charging coil assembly in order to free the latter so it can be lifted away from the battery.

    • Remove the back cover.

    • To prepare for the reassembly remove any remaining adhesive from the phone, and clean the glued areas with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

How do you swap the fingerprint sensor

    Lukus Carr - Ответить

You can use a tweezer to swap the fingerprint sensor, you might be careful when doing the step 6, additionally, a tweezer will be helpful when reassemble the fingerprint sensor. please note that your new back cover needs to have the fingerprint adhesive on. most of the product did not have. i have get a LUVSS brand from amazon which came with all OEM adhesive and full set tools, even a B6000 glue, best option to go for replacing the note 8 back glass

    • Use the flat end of a spudger to pry up the loudspeaker assembly.

    • You will be prying above the mainboard and the antenna cable. Pry carefully to avoid damaging any close components.

    • Remove the loudspeaker assembly.

    • Use the flat end of a spudger to disconnect both the display and the touchscreen cables.

  15. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Display Replacement: шаг 15, изображение 1 из 1
    • Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the display for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive beneath.

    • You may need to reheat and reapply the iOpener several times to get the phone warm enough. Follow the iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

    • If your display glass is cracked, keep further breakage contained and prevent bodily harm during your repair by taping over the glass.

    • Lay overlapping strips of clear packing tape over the Note8's display until the whole face is covered.

    • This will keep glass shards contained and provide structural integrity when prying and lifting the display.

    • Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from any glass shaken free during the repair.

I'm assuming you flip the phone over so the screen is facing up before step 15 correct?

    • Once the screen is warm to the touch, apply a suction cup to the lower edge of the phone.

    • If the phone's screen is cracked, the suction cup may not stick. Try lifting it with strong tape, or superglue the suction cup in place and allow it to cure so you can proceed.

    • Lift on the suction cup, and insert a halberd spudger or an opening pick under the display assembly.

    • Due to the curved glass, you will be pushing up, rather than inserting parallel to the plane of the phone.

    • Start to slide the halberd spudger/opening pick along the lower edge of the phone to cut the adhesive. Leave an opening pick at the corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

    • The screen's flex cable is located just below the midpoint on the side of the power button, and may interfere with your cutting tool.

    • Continue to slide the halberd spudger/opening pick along the side of the phone and insert another opening pick.

    • Slide the halberd spudger/opening pick to the upper corner of the phone to cut the adhesive and insert and opening pick to prevent the adhesive from sticking to the display.

    • Go slowly so that the tool doesn't slip out of the seam. If cutting becomes too difficult, reheat and reapply the iOpener.

    • Repeat the previous heating and cutting procedure for the remaining sides of the phone. Insert an opening pick on every corner and on both sides of the Note8.

    • Use a little extra caution when prying near the top edge so as not to damage the front-facing sensors and earpiece speaker.

  18. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Display Replacement: шаг 18, изображение 1 из 2 Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Display Replacement: шаг 18, изображение 2 из 2
    • Both, the flex cable of the touchscreen and the display cable are threaded through the mid frame. The openings in the midframe are rather small and it can be a bit of a fumbling to pull them out.

    • Once you cut the adhesive on all sides of the phone you can use the small suction cup to slowly lift it upwards.

  19. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Display Replacement: шаг 19, изображение 1 из 1
    • Before installing a new display, it's very important to remove all traces of the old adhesive from the frame, while taking special care to remove any small glass fragments in case your display was broken.

    • Remove any remaining adhesive from the phone, and clean the glued areas with isopropyl alcohol (90+%) and a lint-free cloth.

    • If the frame is bent, or if any glue or glass remnants are left behind, the new display will not mount correctly and may be damaged. If necessary, replace the frame.

Заключение

If possible, turn on your phone and test your repair before installing new adhesive and resealing the phone.

After reapplying adhesive, follow these instructions in reverse order to reassemble your device.

The best way to secure the new screen is with a sheet of custom-cut double-sided tape. Apply the tape to the back of the screen, then carefully feed the display cable through the frame. Align the screen and press it into place.

I’m sorry, but this is just a preview question. When the guide says display, does it mean only the glass screen or the LCD and digetizer as well?

Adrian Gomez - Ответить

Hello Adrian Gomez. Here “display” refers to the glass, digitizer and LCD combo—those are fused together.

For this repair, do I need to buy the 230 dollar screen part as well?

Litagano Motscoud - Ответить

This guide here is for replacing only the screen without the frame (which we currently don’t have in store). The 230 dollar part includes the frame and the according guide can be found here: Samsung Galaxy Note8 Display Assembly with Frame Replacement

Can I purchase just a replacement front screen and digitiser (easily available on fleabay) to replace a cracked front Note8 screen?

Turns out that the screen+ digitiser are widely available without the LCF fused into them.

Thank you.

ILM - Ответить

Hi ILM, separating the actual display from the front glass/digitizer is a cumbersome procedure that requires special tools. Same goes for fusing them together again. This could be done in well-equipped repair shops. Going for a combined display+digitizer assembly replacement is mostly the way to go for a “regular user” repair.

Hi there,

Thank you for the guide and What is your opinion and recommendation on non-original (but fairly looking good)displays that we can buy online? Should we adhere to replace with original parts? What are the most possible consequences that can occur in such non-original replacements? Please share your ideas.

ruchira subhashana - Ответить

Hi uchira subhashana,

aftermarket screens can work well for repairs and often they are unbranded original parts. So there is nothing wrong with that. However you can’t say this in general because at the end of the day it always depends on where you buy the screen. Not all retailers are evenly reliable and you should always try to find a safe source like iFixit is. Worst that can happen with an aftermarket screen is that the new screen is not working but usually this wont harm your phone and you can send it back. This can happen with original frames as well.

Dominik Schnabelrauch -

will be awesome if you leave a links with all things we have to buy to do this.

jose osorto - Ответить

Is there a safe reliable source for just the lcd/screen without the frame? A $200+ repair with 2+ hours of labor makes a hard sell.

I'm none to sanguine on the available options on amazon.

Thankyou again for the amazing guide.

Does iFixit sell display adhesive? if not where can i find some

You can use this double sided adhesive or pre-cut adhesive like this one (select different widths and pre-cut with the dropdown menu).

Tobias Isakeit -

Could you please provide steps on reassembly, please?

Is it good to use a glue or a double sided tesa tape to assemble everything back?
