So, your trusty old MacBook isn’t quite what it used to be. Maybe the trackpad has slowed down a few paces—or maybe the battery is so swollen that it’s broken through the trackpad itself.

“The actual fix was very simple—open the back, take out the old battery, put the new one in, close the back. Voila!” —Deborah Frost: MacBook Pro 13” Unibody Mid 2010“I read in the comments on the guide that someone had to really bend the battery connector on the new battery to connect it to the logic board. That was good to know, because I also had to bend it to get it to fit. I also read on another guide that someone asked about the plastic pieces of tape on the new battery. I wouldn’t have known to remove them without the response to that question on the iFixit guide.” —Nathan Phillips: MacBook Air 11″ Late 2010“Remember—keep your laptop cool and calibrate your battery when charging!” — Craig Silverman: MacBook Pro 17″ Unibody“I followed the directions, had all the tools (courtesy of iFixit.com). The fix was super easy and cost effective! Check iFixit.com before sending things off for repair!”—Jeff Hughes: MacBook Air 13” Mid 2011“Get the proper tools and follow the simple instructions.” —kamilaswadel: MacBook Pro 13″ Unibody Mid 2009“The repair went incredibly smoothly thanks to the iFixit guide & tools. I ordered all the tools I needed for the job and the battery through this site, and it could not have made things easier.” —dalton: MacBook Pro 15″ Unibody 2.53 GHz Mid 2009“Repair was way easy. The screws are small but so is the laptop. You’ll do fine.” —jmenter: MacBook Air 11″ Mid 2011“The instructions are pretty easy to follow.” —Aral: MacBook Pro 15″ Unibody Early 2011

I was freaking out when my old 2011 macbook pro battery started expanding, lifting my mouse pad up on one side and down on the other. The longer I waited the more it expanded. It was frustrating because the tracker worked but the mousepad couldn’t drag anything anymore. I feared having to spend $200 or more because of the age of my pro baby. Soooooooo glad I came across ifixit. Only problem was the tiny screwdriver couldn’t get one screw out so instead of 20 minutes it took me 1.5 hours to replace the battery. I was so nervouse the okd thing would explode in my face. I ended up just pulling the screw out with the cover. Then I forgot to leave that screw loose when I put it back in, so will have to struggle all over again when removing it again :(. Maybe a stronger screwdriver would help? Happy nonetheless…
