Fixing greyed-out wifi

My iPhone 4S's wifi greyed out and could not connect to home wifi. The cellular part and bluetooth worked fine but not wifi. So I thought replacing the wifi antenna might fix it.

Also I thought while I have the phone opened, I might as well replace the battery at the same time.

The disassembly was fine. I took my time (approx 1 1/2 hr) carefully removing all the screws and parts needed to reach the wifi antenna. I had it laid out in a manner which I could remember where every parts/screw goes. The instructions were very helpful.

The re-assembly was much faster.

I was really nervous when I turned back on the iPhone but to my surprise, it turned on just fine, just as before! (I was afraid of possible short circuit or somehow not connecting something correctly.)

HOWEVER, the repair DID NOT fix my problem. The wifi antenna is still greyed out so this leads me to believe the problem is not the antenna itself, but with the wifi chip (which is all part of the logic board). I'm not going to replace that as this is a spare phone and I'm not spending any more money on this.

After taking my phone apart and putting it back together, I have no more fear of doing repairs myself.

My advice for anyone attempting this is to be sure to take your time, be organized, don't rush, and lots of patience.
