Моя проблема

I've been fixing Mac's since 1980. An old client gave me his broken 13" MacBook Pro almost 2 years ago since between the cost of a logic board and my labor it was not worth repairing compared to buying a nicer one.

I can look on the internet and find similar Macs for about the same or less than it costs to buy a logic board from any supplier.

If a little patient, it's easy to find one with more of everything too. On the other hand, the basic I5 2.9 model works well for routine computing jobs.

After all, It's OS X that makes these Mac's a good value and a pleasure to use more than anything else. Apple hardware ages well.

I have a hot rod late 2013 built in 2014, 15" with the dual graphics cards, 1 tb drive, 16gb ram and 2.6 I7. Its too big and heavy on my lap in my easy chair for reading my Kindle library.

It won't fit in my BMW motorcycle side bags for a quick trip to a client.

The 13" MacBook Pro is perfect for its smaller size, lighter weight and ability to run any tools I use for diagnosing network issues or Mac's.

I have to send a big thanks to Ifixit for running a sale on one version of the logic boards for this model. Hopefully, as a way to say thanks to the authorized repairers that purchase parts and help make this right to repair idea work for all!

Моё решение

The job went easily for me. I used to build hundreds of IBM PC clones, so installing processors, heat sinks and thermal paste is very routine work. Since I taught auto shop and worked as a professional mechanic before going back to school for my double EE in the late 70's, I have an incomparable collection of tools and experience. At 72, fortunately, my eyes and feel for the tiny flimsy screws and connections in Mac's is still pretty good too!

Take your time. If new to this, read all the comments, zoom in on the many attached pictures as your SOP before each step to help stay out of trouble!

Setup a clean space and organize all the tiny parts!

Setup or buy a good desk lamp and make sure you have a bright LED flashlight to illuminate any tough spots before creating a problem! A cheap solution is one of the many portable LED workspace lamps you find in most big box stores or on line.

I use magnetic bowls to arrange all the screws. All my tools for handling the screws are magnetized. Remember, searching for a single dropped tiny screw can double the time of a repair!

Have a magnifying glass handy!

If a connector is not behaving, take a deep breath, do some yoga or go for a run!
