Моя проблема

Normal YLOD symptoms. After a long play session last July, the PS3 shut down and never came back.

Моё решение

The kit arrived complete and exactly as described. My unit had been previously repaired by Sony (years ago), so when I opened it up I found a single screw missing (the 30 mm Phillips screw from Step 5 of the guide). This screw did not seem to be structurally significant, so I proceeded. The whole thing went very well. I followed the guide exactly (except for one thing from Steps 16-18, which I will cover below) and had no problems. Be sure to read the whole guide through at least twice so you know what's coming up and can prepare.

When I started using the heat gun, I didn't hold the motherboard upright during the initial warming, because I had already placed the board on cardboard and leveled it (with an actual level). It's represented in the guide and the video as being held upright during this step, but it didn't seem to affect the result.

Warmed each of the 4 sections for 30s, then back again for about 15 more on each. I switched back to the low setting on the heat gun for a while, to ease the cooling transition. I shut the cats out of the room and waited several hours.

Reassembly was a breeze (thermal paste and pads are the hardest part), and the unit powered on and worked immediately.

I could not be happier with both the process and the result.

Мой совет

On the thermal pads, the paper backing tends to stick better to the adhesive than the adhesive does to the pad. This means you have to spend a good while peeling and re-peeling to get the paper off without taking off the adhesive or re-positioning the pad. Be prepared to spend extra time there.

I would like to call attention to Step 16 - Step 18. The yellow/green ground wire shown in Step 16 was threaded *below* the right-most power supply bracket shown in the photo, and the ground wire's internal tooth lock washer won't fit underneath. The 9 mm Phillips screw fastening this bracket isn't removed until Step 25, but if your ground wire is beneath the bracket, you'll have to remove the back two 9 mm Phillips screws from the power supply before you can pull out the ground wire and, therefore, the AC inlet.
