Моя проблема

The sand was incidental, probably from hanging out on the beach a lot. The problem was the head phone jack was on the fritz. Mono sound= no good. Had to get back to Stereo.

Моё решение

It was a little sketchy. The case is definitely the hardest part to get open, disconnecting the ribbon cables is easy if you go slow and are gentle with them. The battery is where things got hairy. Mine had a lot of adhesive, and gentle prying wasn't doing the trick, at all. I got a little aggressive with it, using a small flathead screwdriver. Unfortunately I didn't realize that the underside of the battery was soft and I punctured it. A few seconds later I got it free and was wondering, why is my battery so %#*@ hot? A few panicked minutes later, the battery was chilling in a container of salt water, and a new battery was ordered for $15 dollars. I rationalized the mistake away since the battery was five years old anyway, and a few days later I got the battery and the repair was finished without anymore hitches. It was a little nerve wracking as my first electronics repair, but all in all pretty easy.

Мой совет

1. Read the msd safety sheet on lithium ion batteries before you try to take it out. apparently those things can explode...

2. Don't pry out the battery with anything that has a sharp pointy end.

3. An eyeglass repair kit has a #00 phillips tip in it, so don't waste money on it if you already have one of those lying around your home.

4. Keep a piece of tape handy to store the super tiny screws in once you get them out.
