Just removing the hard drive is fewer steps

You don't need to undo all the cables. Once you've got past step 5 (disconnect vertical sync cable), you can simply prop up the screen, remove the SATA connectors (data and power), and remove 2 screws holding in the drive.

Since I was just imaging the drive and it could connect easily to my write blocker, I didn't need to remove anything else from it. Simplicity itself. Easy out, easy back in.
