Nice thank you. Maybe replace the German headlines (Einleitung, Schritt 1 so on ) with the English translation. ;-) Do you know where to get replacements for the foam cup?

Tim - Ответить

Hi Tim, you could try aliexpress.com to see if they have it. This product is pretty new thus might be difficult to find.

dinoofsg -

Thank you for this teardown. I have been searching about if battery replacement is easy to do at home - a thing really important for me when buying new electronics. I haven't found any articles about this yet, did you happen to see if that would be easy?

Iikka Konola - Ответить

This product is still under warranty at the moment so I wouldn't want to risk taking that apart. But I highly presume the process should almost be the same.

dinoofsg -

Please... need to know if the battery is easy to replace at home on the Sony MDR-1000X Headphones. Thanks for any help.

Where is battery please?

Hi! Great post. Thank you so much.

Do you know, if th bluetooth antenna at MDR-1000x can be removed or permanently disabled?

Then I would love to buy it :-)

Dagobert - Ответить

Hi I'm not sure why you would want to remove the Bluetooth module. Anyways it should be on the board of the side I showed in the tear down.

dinoofsg -

Yep, I would also like to know if the battery is something that can be replaced?

Battery is in the other earcup..same process to take off the backing cover. Battery is simple to pop out (its stuck with some sticky back tape so requires a bit of a pop with something flat) its a 3.6V 925mAh 3.4Wh Model i had was SP70A

Rob Marshall - Ответить

Thanks. It's nice to know what side it is on before taking things apart. I'm taking care of mine, so I expect the battery to outlive the warranty. But, we all know batteries do eventually fail...

David Martin -

IS the battery process the same for the 1000x M2 (New version of this product)? I heard they increased the batter so i suspect it may be different. But for the 1000x this looks really easy to me. I was thinking about purchasing M2, but replaceable battery is key.

Terrific post :) Thanks a lot. I cycled with my headphones on through the rain, and now the 'wireless' part of this headphone stopped working altogether. That is, wired, the speakers work. However, the headphones don't turn on anymore. When I push the 'on' button the blue light on the 'on' button and 'nc' button briefly light up together, that's all. This is not due to problems with the buttons, it also happens when I directly push the contact with the buttons removed. The headphone still charges though. Any ideas on how I could fix this?

Aldo Spanjaard - Ответить

Hi Aldo, as with all fairly new product, you can try using your warranty (if its not already expired) to see if Sony can troubleshoot the problem for you first. At least that diagnosis will be by professionals. Likelihood if water has seeped into your MDR1KX, it might void the warranty. If your warranty is over, you might want to open up and check the bluetooth module if it is still working. Hope that helps.

dinoofsg -

Hey Dinoofsg, I already contacted Sony, and they said that water damage indeed voided the warranty. But do you know how I can check if the bluetooth module is still working, as I can't turn the headphones on? And could it not be that maybe the battery is dead, and that that is why the headphones don't turn on?

Does someone have Service Manual for theese headphones? I buy a pair from e-bay and it was a scam, the headphones that he send was with cable, wich Cannot be removed,And they are not turning on,only when plugged in USB power.i try to figure it out what can they have and how can i fix, they have battery inside and all the rest.

Chris brown - Ответить

Hello Chris does it had works for you, because I have the same problem.. EBay…

Kazuya -

For Chris Brow post on 11/18. What you have is a floor sample from some store the battery that have in it is not good and need to be replace and the cable need to be disconnect from the headphone and that should work. I had the same problem that you have, that was what it work for me give it a try

yasel cavada - Ответить

Can you please go more in depth on taking off the sides after the screw? I’m trying to get to the battery compartment, as I have the store display version. A video would be best. I’m having a lot of resistance near the ANC port on the outside. I’d rather not break these lol. Thank you

Clayton Bichsel - Ответить

I got the cover off, there is sticky tape or something. My only problem now is removing the battery itself

Clayton Bichsel -

It seems that no body response here but I tried to take the battery out. Now it never allows me to switch on. I did reset with/without plug in, nether works. Please advise, HELP! I found the website to buy battery as you see below.

I too have a wired pair from a shop floor. They only work when plugged in to usb. I’ve tried another battery, no difference, unsoldering the USB that uses the same cable as the audio input, no luck there. Anyone know how to make these work like regular pair?

Danny - Ответить

3.5 mm socket on my set is faulty, lots of static and the cable eventually falls out,has this happened to anyone else and can it be repaired.

gazzer4 - Ответить

Same problem with the 3.5mm jack, looking up for an answer here.

garbidz -

TL:DR &&^& Sony, I’ll stick with Sennheiser.

I had the blinking red light when charging issue on wh-1000xm2. My pair were purchased refurb-ed off eBay and are 6 months old. When they worked, they were fantastic BT + NC headphones.

After ordering a replacement battery, I easily followed these instructions and replaced the battery. The old battery had definitely leaked everywhere, so I wasn’t sure what to expect after cleaning and installing the replacement. After plugging in to charge, the light was a solid red - promising sign - but afterwards, I couldn’t get them to turn on, even after trying the “reset” instructions. Waste of $.

Dear respected,

I have purchased sony MDR 1000x in used condition but it was not working when i opened its Left ear piece i found that every single wire has not soldered with the circuit. I am very confused for soldering wires to their actual position on circuit. Please give me a photo or upload a short video for disassembly of SONY MDR 1000x so that i can see clearly Left ear circuit and wires to soldering them.

Thanks.

thanks @dinoofsg appreciat the information. Very reassuring.

Good to know that there is a possibility of replacing the battery in this version of the headphones if and when it eventually dies or lasts too short s time.

I have the 2018 xm3 version and hope the process is similar and as straightforward as this. Hopefully someone will have a teardown by then and that the battery is the same.

Can this manual also be applied to the newer version: Sony WH-1000XM2 in order to replace the battery? Thanx for some input! Marc

Hi there, the covering plastic piece of the right headphone’s hinge is broken and I would like to try and clue it. Any tips on how to get it off? Thanks. Eberhard

Thanks for tear down. Dude please share the colour code for all the cords

Cillian Burns - Ответить

My 1000xm2 battery started dying quickly (it would only last a few minutes after a charge) some time ago, so I decided to replace the battery. At the end I found that the new battery lasted longer (because it came fully charged) but after the first run out, it would not charge anymore. So the problem is likely on the charging board (even the phone red light does not turn on when connected to micro USB). When I looked close at the charging board, the ribbon cable was a bit melted, so I believe the problem is in it. What is the exact ribbon I have to purchase if I want to replace the one from the charging board?

geo - Ответить

As of DEC 2023 you'll only find 1080mwh batteries for replacement. Which is lower than the original 1200mwh. This means less run time before needing a recharge. For the original price of the headphones $400ish (Bought mine over 12 years ago and still on the original battery) giving them another year or two of life for $15 isn't too bad.
