How are you charging it?? charge it from the mains instead of the comp it thats what you are doing and leave it for a good while...should be as simple as that if it wasnt damaged and you just let it go flat!
dud if the glass lifts, let it, then use something metal (i use a small flathead screwdriver) to get the assembly out whilst holding the glass out of the way.
take the screen off following ifixit's instructions, once the glass in free from the middle-board you can very clearly see the home button and how it works, it is not complicated once you can see it.
Is your phone jailbroken?? i had this problem... it can simply be that too much stuff is being used, i dont know how it works but i just reset everything to look factory and my signal come back- for a temporary fix, switch 3g off and then turn aeroplane mode on then off, will force the phone to search for signal.
When reassembling mine, I found to my horror that the new rear panel did not have hole here to screw into. I went to the local hardware store and bought a 1mm drill bit and re-drilled the hole. Amazingly it worked and I was able to screw this piece back on.
i had exactly the same situation but a 1mm drill piece didn't seem small enough..
