I oversee quality control for iFixit’s parts supply chain, and manage our parts testing team. My job involves everything from developing testing procedures and quality metrics (and overseeing a vast number of spreadsheets and data analysis tools), to managing our facility’s Responsible Recycling (R2) certification, to ensuring that our parts suppliers in China are meeting our quality standards. I joined the iFixit team in 2016.
Aside from tech-y things, I'm a world traveler (on hiatus) and an aspiring cultural anthropologist. I embarked upon my first trip abroad when I was a teenager, and quickly became addicted to exploring other countries and cultures. I have since spent a combined five years backpacking, living and working abroad, over several journeys across Europe, Southeast Asia, India, and the Middle East — 43 countries at last count. I lived in Syria for a few years before the on-going conflict unfolded there, teaching English and documenting the country's cultural and historic sites. I recently had a book published of my photography: Lens on Syria. I also maintain a website dedicated to the subject.
Other stuff: I enjoy television that offers some sort of social or political commentary and I am a fan of shows like Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office, Arrested Development, Baskets, Louie, and South Park. I grew up listening to 80s/90s punk rock, which has been highly influential in both my taste in music and my social and political views. I lean to the far left politically, follow politics fairly closely, and the focus of my interest is mostly on foreign policy and international relations. I have been vegetarian for 20+ years. I enjoy hiking, camping, and other outdoors-y things. I'm a baseball fan. (Go Dodgers!)
I live in Los Osos with my wife Rasha and our snobby cat, Giddens.

Ответ на "MacBook Pro 17" logic board replacement"Unfortunately, Apple changed several of the internal connectors between these two models, so the logic boards are not interchangeable. For example, the connectors for the fans are different.
Ответ на "Non-Apple SSD blade in iMac 21.5" Late 2013 PCIe slot?"Unfortunately it does not appear that any third party manufacturers have reverse-engineered the proprietary SSD slot on the iMacs yet. OWC only accomplished this with the Late 2013 through Mid 2015 MacBook Pro Retina models last year. For the time being, it appears you're stuck with the options of an expensive Apple part, or a 2'5" SSD replacing your hard drive.
Ответ на "Wifi no hardware installed"First, determine if the problem is hardware or software related. I would expect it to be a hardware issue, but boot from a clean OS installation just to be sure. If you've confirmed it is a hardware issue, first reseat the flex cable connection on both sides (logic board and WiFi card). Perhaps used compressed air to ensure the connections are clean. If that does not solve the problem, I'd replace the cable just because it is an inexpensive part. In my experience, if the system does not recognize the WiFi card, the card itself is usually the culprit, but WiFi flex cables on some models (including your early MacBook Air) can be problematic. While not completely unheard of, it is rare for the WiFi connector on the logic board to fail.
Ответ на "Thermal Sensors Left/Middle/Right essentially the same?"That would be fine, yes. Aside from the cable length, those temperature sensors are identical. Routing a little bit of excess cable shouldn't pose a problem.
Ответ на "do I need the icon apple figure to show when I turn computer on"This would definitely appear to be a software problem. First, I'd check for any software updates available for your unit. That could resolve the issue. Second, you could try rebooting your computer, holding down the shift key on the keyboard once you hear the startup chime. This will boot the computer into safe mode, bypassing any third party software that may be contributing to the issue. If the problem persists, you will probably need to reinstall your operating system. If booting into safe mode resolves your problem, you'll need to troubleshoot what software is causing your issue. I usually start by looking for suspicious third party software in the following locations: /Library/LaunchAgents /Library/LaunchDaemons /Library/StartupItems ~/Library/LaunchAgents ~/Library/LaunchDaemons
Ответ на "I cleaned and now the space button doesn't work , delete, or cap locks"Keyboards can be damaged by many ordinary household cleaners if too much liquid seeps underneath the keys into the circuitry. I recommend cleaning with a cloth lightly dampened with some isopropyl alcohol. Unfortunately, if certain keys are no longer functioning the keyboard itself may be irreparably damaged. Due to the way these Apple Wireless Keyboards are designed, they can not be easily repaired.
Ответ на "A1302 (2nd gen) harddisk change guide used on A1409 (4th gen)?"One option would be to erase your Time Capsule using AirPort Utility in your Applications > Utilities folder. You'd of course lose your backup history if you did this, but if there are no problems with the device you could simply create a new backup. The A1302 and A1409 Time Capsules both have very similar designs, so the guides are largely interchangeable. I've swapped hard drives in several model Time Capsules without issue, but I've never attempted it with a drive larger than 3TB. It is possible that larger drives wouldn't be recognized properly, but it wouldn't hurt to try. The USB port on the Time Capsule is designed for use with a shared printer, but I can't see any reason using it for an external fan would be an issue. Once you've removed the drive from the Time Capsule, you can still access the data by putting it into an external enclosure, though the backups are stored in password-protected disk image files that you'll need to mount.
