I replaced the keyboard and it is not a fun task. To remove the original keyboard, you literally DESTROY the keyboard and the case pins that are pressed at the factory to hold the keyboard in. A 3rd party makes the keyboards that you find online (not avail from Apple). This keyboard looks like the original, but there is no way to fasten it to the case assembly after the original one is removed and the film layer that actually has the sensors in it, is inferior to the original Apple one; it is too large, missing the adhesive that held the original to the case, has a really junky ribbon cables and does not fit well. I had to trim some edges because they stuck up enough to prevent the magnets on the bottom of the case from touching and were blocking vents on both side.
Post keyboard replacement, it works. It lights up, but not as nicely as the original. It’s also spongy feeling on the edges because it is no longer fastened to the case.
IMHO, not worth the hassle. Buy a case shell with the keyboard. :/
