My name is Coye Shelton, I am currently a freshman at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
My chosen major is Aerospace Engineering under the Astronautical track. I chose this major because I have always been fascinated with space and how it is the future of our species. The dream is to one day explore the stars and bring others with similar goals with me.
During my time here at ERAU, I plan to pursue a commission within the Air Force Reserved Officer Corps. After graduation, I will be serving four or more years within the United States Air Force. Along with that experience, I wish to use what I learn to begin my own start-up business, that being in photography, arts, or an Aerospace company. The options are endless and are all up for grabs.
The Nevada Training Corps is a major program within Civil Air Patrol (CAP). It is the leading foundation for all of the state's new and rising cadet leadership. I have been chosen to be both the 2020 and 2021 Nevada Training Corps Commander. In this position, I am responsible for upholding the standards and expectations from National Command and the Air Force. This event is commonly referred to as Encampment. Essentially it is basic training, where cadets will go through a week-long laboratory of learning, teamwork, accountability, and discipline. Learning both Air Force culture and being exposed to the world of Aerospace. They are also encouraged to lead a healthy diet and practice daily exercise.

Followership is one thing, but the key idea that always sticks with me is that you must be a follower before you can begin leadership. I was taught this concept in the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program. It has been the foundation of my leadership and is the biggest influencer in my life for the past five years. It has taught me how to plan and schedule for events, put together worksheets for classes, and develop engaging powerpoints.
I also have an Associate of Arts Degree from Western Nevada College that I received along with my Advanced Honors Diploma right out of high school. Within that degree, I have taken many communication classes and built on my public speaking and writing skills.
Furthermore, this is why I feel these projects are so important because they will allow me to build myself further. You can never be too good at something, meaning there is always room for more practice. My future projects on this site will be the perfect platform for me to further refine my communication skills.
Overall, I appreciate you taking the time to read this small snippet about me, there are many traits that were left out, such as being an aspiring student in the art and creative side. Photography is also a major passion of mine that I hope to turn into a side job or use to influence the community’s lives for the better.
