Yes you can replace them. Simple repair, did it on my Macbook Pro (2014). They should be fairly similar in design for all of them to be honest. When I did mine all I had to do was remove the back cover. Take the battery out, then behind the battery I was able to get to the track pad and remove, refit or clean it. Hope this helps.

I find doing a simple reset (holding the power and home button for around 15 seconds) works for me, the majority of the time.
