Laptop Failing to Charge
The laptop will not charge or fails to turn on.
Faulty Power Adapter
Examine the power adapter and make sure that it is plugged into the power outlet and the computer. After doing this, make sure that the light on the power adapter is turned on. If the light on the power adapter is not turned on consider buying a replacement adapter.
If the power adapter for the computer is functional and the laptop only works when it is plugged into the adapter, then the laptop may be suffering from a faulty battery. The battery can be replaced by using the following guide.
Frequent Computer Crashes
The laptop will frequently and irregularly crash.
The computer may possibly have a virus causing the device to crash. Download an antivirus software, make sure it's up to date, and scan the computer to see if it has any viruses.
Hard Drive Failure
The device may suffer from hard drive failure if it frequently crashes when booting up the computer, files disappear or move, long wait times to access files and folders, or if you hear a clicking or grinding sound coming from the hard drive. The hard drive will need to be replaced using the following guide.
Laptop Will Not Connect to Wi-Fi
The laptop does not detect a Wi-Fi signal.
Router Not Connected Properly
Make sure that the router is turned on and all cables are firmly attached. If the router is turned on and all the cables are firmly attached, turn off the router, wait a few seconds, and then turn the device back on.
Faulty Wi-Fi Card
Make sure that the Wi-Fi is on. This can be done by pressing the windows key, and then selecting Settings -> Network & Internet -> Wi-Fi. If a familiar network is visible on the list of networks be sure to select the network and connect to it. If the Wi-Fi card is not visible in the Device Manager, make sure that its drivers are up to date. If this continues to fail the Wi-Fi card may be defective and need to be replaced. Computer is Overheating
The laptop will be considerably hot and may abruptly shut down.
Make sure that the device has proper air flow by making sure that the vents on the laptop do not have any obstructions on or near them.
Examine the vents and fan of the computer and see if there is an accumulation of dust on any of the components. If there is a buildup of dust, use a canned air duster and carefully spray the components until the dust is gone.
Examine to see if the fan is running when the laptop is in use. If the fan does not run when the system heats up it may be defective and need to be replaced. The fan can be replaced by using the following guide.
Clock Errors Appear on Screen
The device will display on screen an error with the system clock and the time/date will be incorrect.
Wrong Time Zone
Your computer may be set to the wrong time zone which causes your device to display the wrong time. To fix this issue right click the system clock on the task bar and select "Adjust date/time". A new screen will pop up; make sure the timezone information is correct. If it is not correct change it to the correct timezone.
Faulty CMOS Battery
If the date and time of the computer keeps resetting even after making sure that the right timezone is selected, the CMOS battery may be faulty. To replace the CMOS battery use the following guide.
