Camera Won’t Turn On
Make sure the battery is properly put in
The battery has an arrow on it that points which end goes into the camera first. While holding the camera upside down with the front of it pointing towards you, put in the battery so that the Canon logo is pointing away from you. Make sure that the battery goes all the way in so that the release mechanism on the right hand side clicks into place. Close the battery cover lid completely. Make sure the battery is charged
If the battery is properly installed and yet the camera won’t turn on, the battery might be dead. Remove the battery and plug it into its charging unit. Allow for approximately 4 hours of charging time. A complete guide on how to remove the battery can be found here.
Battery cover lid is open
Make sure that the lid for the battery and memory card compartment is properly shut.
Lens error
If the camera won’t properly turn on, make sure that there is nothing obstructing the lens from opening during its startup mode. If lens error continues, then the lens assembly many need to be replaced. A complete guide on removing the lens assembly can be found here.
Camera won’t save pictures
Memory card missing
Make sure there is a SD memory card in the slot; if not, put one in.
Memory card is full
Put in a new empty card. Or, download your pictures onto your computer to allow room from new pictures on the card by deleting the originals on the card. Memory card is locked
Remove the memory card and make sure it is unlocked. The card is locked if the switch on the side is not in the direction of the arrow or diagram next to it. A guide on how to remove the memory card can be found here.
Memory card slot is blocked
Remove the memory card and blow compressed air into the slot. Then, replace the card. A guide on how to remove the memory card can be found here.
Camera Won’t Connect to Computer
Software
Make sure your computer has the proper software downloaded and that your computer has the correct requirements for that software. Refer to the camera’s manual for more information on software.
Make sure the connection cable is secure
Make sure that the connecting cable is securely connected to both the camera and your computer’s USB port.
Display is dysfunctional
Screen is cracked
Replace the screen if the crack is severe. It is important to note that the camera is still functional at taking pictures by using the view finder, but you might not be able to see them on the display. A complete guide on how to remove the LCD screen can be found here.
Screen is shut off
Make sure the camera is on. Change to camera mode and press the “Disp” button to cycle through its options, one of which turns the screen on and off.
Camera won’t flash
Change camera’s settings
Make sure the flash is on in the camera’s options by pressing the lightning bolt button (the right directional pad). See the manual for tips on using flash in different settings.
Flash Assembly is broken
