Check power button:
Make sure to check if your power button is working. Sometimes, simple solutions like this can slip our mind! The power button gets used a lot which results in it getting dirty or damaged.
- Use a toothpick to clean out any dirt in the edges.
- Press down on the power button to see if it’s stuck.
- Try a hard reboot by holding down the power button for ten seconds to force the device to shut down and then trying to turn it back on.
Check the battery:
A battery issue may be the cause of your Chromebook not turning on. When you’re charging your Chromebook, check to see if the charging light turns on. If the light doesn’t turn on while you’re charging your Chromebook, it could be the charging port or power adapter.
If there are issues:
- Check for lint in your charging port. In some cases, lint can block the connection between your charger and the pin, stopping your Chromebook from charging.
- Check for any damage, cuts, or bends to your power adapter and the cable.
If there is damage, you can purchase a replacement.
Check LED indicators:
Most Chromebooks have LED indicators that show the charging state while the device is charging. If your Chromebook has any LED lights when it is charging, look to see to how it acts. This this could reveal important details about the problem you're having.
- White = Powered on
- Green = Fully charged
- Amber = Charging
- Red = Charging issue or dead battery (Leave your Chromebook charging or contact HP support for further assistance.)
- Blinking White = Shipping mode (Let your Chromebook charge for 30 more minutes.)
Factory reset your Chromebook:
To perform a hard reset, disconnect any external devices connected to your Chromebook and power your Chromebook off. Hold down both the power button and the refresh (circular arrow symbol) key for 10 seconds.
If the Chromebook turns on, leave the AC adapter plugged in and let it charge for up to 24 hours. Continue troubleshooting to check for battery issues if the battery does not charge.
If the Chromebook won't turn on, press the power button a few times. The battery could need up to 24 hours to charge in some instances. If the fans aren't making noise, the Chromebook's lights stay off, and there is no video signal reaching the screen, then your Chromebook may not be getting power. Contact HP support for further assistance.
