HP Pavilion x360 m3-u001dx Troubleshooting
This troubleshooting page will help you determine problems with the HP Pavilion x360 m3-u001dx.
Device Will Not Power On
When the power button is pressed nothing happens.
Plug the charger into a working outlet. Ensure that the charger cable has no exposed wire and it is properly connected. If the light indicating power does not turn on, then the charger may be defective.
If the undamaged charging cable is plugged into a working outlet and the laptop is functioning, but the laptop fails to maintain power when disconnected, the battery is defective. Replace the battery using this guide.
Screen Won’t Turn On
The laptop powers on and is fully functional but the display will not turn on.
Faulty Display Driver
Plug in a HDMI cord and attach it to an external screen. Check if the laptop screen is detected by the Device Manager located in the Control Panel. If the screen is not detected by the Device Manager, the display driver is faulty. Download the device driver from HP website.
Plug in the AC Power Adapter. Power on the laptop. Ensure the fans are functioning by by checking the air flow in the bottom of the laptop. Visually check for lights indicating power. If the laptop screen doesn’t turn on then the screen is faulty. Replace the screen using this guide.
Blue Screen of Death (STOP error)
The laptop turns on and remains on a blue screen with white text that displays an error.
Faulty Operating System
When starting the computer, if a blue screen with instructions are displayed, follow the directions on the screen. If the instructions do not yield a result that resolves the problem and the issue persists; reformat the hard drive by erasing all previous data and replace the operating system.
Corrupted Hard Drive
If the hard drive has been properly formatted and the computer continues to display the Blue Screen of Death, shut off the computer, remove the hard drive, and replace it with one that is compatible. Use the following guide to replace the hard drive.
Overheating of the Laptop
The computer is hotter than usual or is making noises.
The fan has slowed down or has stopped spinning causing the computer to heat up and make noises. This may indicate that the fan has encountered a blockage due to dust. Clean the fan using an air canister. Follow the instructions in this guide up to step 7, to remove the keyboard, then use the Air Canister to blow directly onto the fan.
If the fan is not spinning when the power is on, use this guide to replace the fan.
Keys on the keyboard are unresponsive.
If keys fail to respond to touch when the laptop is powered on, check to see if the ribbon cables are seated correctly underneath the keyboard. Follow the instruction on this guide up until step 6. Then visually ensure the ribbon cables are properly attached. If they are incorrectly mounted, use a Heavy Duty Spudger to flip the clips, manually re-seat the cables, and re-fasten the clips.
Symptoms of imminent or actual HDD failure
Signs suggesting that your hard disk drive may be close to or have already failed; these symptoms are not mutually exclusive and multiple symptoms may be present at one time. In the event that you identify the problem as such, please refer to the HDD replacement guide.
Slow loading times in the absence of a software related problem
Applications/operating system loading slowly when there is no apparent software related issue. ex: spyware, malware, viruses, etc
Loud/abnormal noises emanating from the HDD (clicking, scraping, etc)
Failure to load an operating system after POST
System successfully POSTs but the operating system is not loaded; you may be directed to a screen asking which device you wish to boot from or a windows startup repair screen.
HDD is not detected by the computer
The HDD is not detected by the computer; Either the operating system doesn't recognize the additional HDD or it is not detected by the motherboard and does not appear under the list of bootable devices in the BIOS menu.
Make sure the HDD is connected to the motherboard
In the event that the HDD is not detected by the motherboard this would be the next thing to check.
Symptoms of wireless card failure
Signs indicating the wireless card has failed or become disconnected from the antenna. In the event that you identify the problem as such, please refer to the wireless card replacement guide.
Failure to connect to a wireless network in the absence of operator error when establishing a connection
Unable to connect to a wireless network when all the correct steps associated with establishing a connection are followed.
Ensure the wireless card isn't disabled
Check the wireless adapter setting and ensure that it is not disabled.
Check to see if the Antenna is plugged into the socket on the card
Check the wireless card and make sure the antenna is attached to its socket.
Symptoms of RAM (Memory) failure
Signs that the laptops RAM (Memory) stick may have failed or become disconnected. In the event that you find the problem as such, please refer to the RAM replacement guide.
Failure to POST with corresponding motherboard error code
There's only one stick so any major issues will likely prevent the computer from getting past POST, no other symptoms are likely. Refer to the user manual in the event the computer sounds a sequence of beeps when powered on.
Symptoms of digitizer failure
Symptoms that suggest the digitizer has failed or is producing problems for the user. In the event that you identify the problem as such, please refer to the digitizer replacement guide.
Touching the touch-sensitive screen doesn't produce inputs
Touch screen inputs are not recognized/touch functionality is not present.
Mouse is stuck/jittering in one location (and you have identified the problem as not being related to the trackpad or any installed mice)
In the event the cursor is stuck in one spot in the screen it may be due to an issue with the digitizer or touch screen as they are creating a persistent input at one location. In the event it is a screen related issue there may be other screen related issues at that location due to the event that caused the error in the first place. Such event may include but are not limited to dropping the laptop, striking the screen by accident with a hard object, etc. The other screen related issues will likely cause visual artifacts around the affected area. If other screen related issues are not present replacing the digitizer would be the more sensible beginning option of the two.
