Device not turning on
The laptop does not show any sign of powering up.
Faulty power adapter
Assure that the power adapter is plugged in, then confirm if the charging light is on. This light is located on the front left corner of the base. If the light is not on, and the adapter is plugged in, the adapter may be faulty. Consider purchasing a new power adapter.
Faulty battery
Ensure that the battery pack is secure and locked in place. Plug the adapter in and check to confirm that the charging light is lit. Allow the computer to charge for five minutes. Once the laptop has had a chance to charge, unplug the power adapter. If the computer immediately shuts down, the battery may be faulty, consider replacing the battery using this guide
Device screen is black and doesn't show anything
The device is powered on, but the screen is black or blank.
Damaged screen
If another screen / monitor is available, connect it to your laptop with an HDMI cable. If your desktop appears fully on the secondary screen then the screen on your laptop is causing the issue. Consider using the following guide to replace the damaged screen.
If your desktop does not appear on the secondary screen consider assessing if either the battery is faulty, or if an internal part of your laptop is malfunctioning.
Device does not boot to OS
The device powers on but does not proceed past the Lenovo loading screen.
Hard Drive Error
If the laptop does not load past the Lenovo loading screen, the wheel spins endlessly, or your laptop displays a blue screen with an error message similar to 'Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart' the Hard Drive could be damaged. Please consider the following guide to replace the Hard Drive.
Not Enough RAM
The device displays the blue screen error code of '0230/0231/ 0232' or some RAM failure message. This could be a result of not enough RAM or a damaged RAM stick. Consider replacing RAM with the following guide.
Device is failing to read CD's or DVD's
After a CD or DVD is loaded, the laptop displays an error message stating that the disc could not be read.
The CD is damaged
Check the CD for surface blemishes. Attempt to clean the disc and reinsert. If the disc still cannot be read consider replacing the disc.
The Optical Drive is malfunctioning or damaged
If the Optical Drive fails to read a disc, check to ensure that the disc itself is not damaged. If the Optical Drive fails to eject it may be broken and need to be replaced.
Touchpad on the device is not working
Once the computer is powered on, the mouse shows no reactivity.
Touchpad could be disabled
To check the status of the touchpad press down on Fn + F6 and then check to see if the mouse responds. You can also check this by going through your settings menu.
- Click Start > Settings > Devices, then click into your Touchpad settings.
- Check to ensure that the touchpad toggle switch is on.
The Touchpad driver is outdated or corrupted
To check the status of the Touchpad driver follow these steps:
- Click Start then type in 'device manager'.
- Once inside the manager navigate to Mice and other pointing devices.
- For every driver listed in the drop down: double click to open, press update driver and follow the update wizard steps.
