Nokia 6236i Troubleshooting

My phone won't turn on no matter what I try

If the power button seems to be stuck or will not depress properly, try to pull it up by taking a hold of it by the sides with a pair of tweezers and pulling up lightly.

The battery may not be correctly attached to the phone

  • Remove the battery from the back of the phone
  • Check the connections between the phone and the battery for any dirt, debris, or corrosion.
  • If necessary, clean the connections between the battery and the phone with a cloth, or an eraser or file if there is persistent debris or corrosion.
  • Put the battery back in the phone and try to turn it on.

If these steps have not helped you turn the phone on, it may need to be replaced entirely.

  • Remove the battery and check the model number. Order a replacement from Nokia or from another site (see below)
  • Put the replacement battery in the phone and charge the phone. If it still does not work, consider purchasing a new phone.

A cracked or damaged LCD screen will need to be replaced.

Turning off the phone then turning it back on may solve the issue.

Check to make sure that the LCD screen is properly connected to the logic board.

If the LCD screen is connected securely to the logic board and the screen will still not display properly, then the LCD screen will need to be replaced.

Use the volume buttons on the side of the phone to increase the ringer volume.

Select Menu > Settings > Profiles. Choose a profile other than Silent.

In rare cases, if your phone still does not make sound and it is not in silent mode then it is possible your speaker is broken and needs replacing.

If the keys only work sometimes or get stuck when pressed, they may need cleaning. Thorough cleaning requires removal of the outer casing, instructions for which will be provided soon.

If cleaning doesn't solve the problem, the keypad may need to be replaced. See the repair manual for instructions on doing so.

If your keypad still doesn't respond properly, the logic board is most likely at fault. The repair manuals will include instructions on replacing it as well.
