Panasonic SDR-H40P Troubleshooting
Use this page to troubleshoot your Panasonic SDR-H40P.
Computer won't recognize camera
After plugging in the camera via USB, computer will show an option to connect to the AC adapter, but it will not show an option to access camera files.
Missing VideoCam Suite
Search your computer for VideoCam Suite application. If you find the file, open it. If the application fails to run, delete/uninstall the program and re-download it at the support page on the Panasonic site. (Note: make sure that the software version is compatible with your computer operating system; IE Windows 7, Vista, etc…) Once download is complete, retry opening the file, and install it to your PC.
Camera won’t charge or power on
That is if it still won't power on with no memory card installed with either of your batteries that have the correct voltage then you will have to have a board replaced in the camera. I'm going to post a couple of links here for you. The first is for Panasonic support for your camera. The second is a third party repair service that I've had good luck with. You should be able to get a free quote from each, then you can make an informed decision on who to use for the repair.
Hard Drive/ Memory storage not working
Issues saving data or getting it off of the camera.
The most common cause of these problems are going to be user error. You may not be using the correct procedures to copy the data off the hard drive. Please make sure you have video cam suite installed on your computer. This is the program that allows you to retrieve the files off the device. Then connect the camera to the computer using the usb cable and open the video cam suite to access the cameras files.
HDD/SD card failure
The hard drive or SD card failing is very unlikely to happen but over time the HDD may give out from age or damage. If the camera is not able to save data to the hard drive nor the computer able to access its files, then you will have to replace the hard drive completely. This can be done using this guide (hyperlink on the word guide).
