Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5206 Troubleshooting

No matter how long I leave the plug into the laptop, the battery does not charge.

Sometimes the cord may be plugged into the computer, but it may not be plugged into the AC adapter properly. Make sure that the cord connecting the computer to the AC adapter is fully plugged in.

If the laptop still does not charge your battery may have malfunctioned and will need to be replaced

My lap top is not booting or loading windows.

Using Safe Mode, undo any recent changes made. Then perform a System Restore, try a clean boot and back up data.

If the System Recovery is successful and you are able to start Windows normally, you do not need to fix the hard drive.

My screen is non-responsive.

The initial solution to this problem may require no repairs at all.

Try rebooting the device by holding down the power button.

Note: This case is not common.

Remove the battery component.

Once removed, replace the battery and press the power button.

My laptop overheats and turns off.

Your fan may have dust build up.

To fix this, turn the laptop over and try to rotate the fan with a toothpick.

In order to open the bottom of the laptop, it is highly recommended to use proper tools and latex gloves.

Clean the fan and the surrounding area with the Air Duster.

Carefully remove any gunk build up and dust particles.

This will required proper use of a few tools.

What can I do if my CD or DVD drive does not work properly?

In the Start Menu, search for "Device Manager" and press ENTER. Expand "DVD/CD-ROM drives." Right-click the entry for the CD/DVD drive nested under "DVD/CD-ROM drives." Then select "Uninstall." Finally, restart the computer. The computer will reinstall the drivers for the drive.

Even when your laptop is off and unplugged, residual power can still be held in some components. While this is normal, clearing it can help with some hardware problems. Perform these steps to complete what’s called a power cycle.

Ensure the laptop is turned off. Unplug the laptop's AC power cable.

Unplug all wires or peripherals. This includes CDs, DVDs, USB sticks, mice, printers, and any other accessories. Hold down the power button for thirty seconds. Connect the AC adaptor to the power socket that was confirmed to be working in the first step.

Connect the other end of the AC adaptor to your computer.

Start the computer and test the drive

If the problem still persists, remove the CD- ROM Drive for replacement.
