Can't get into iPod

cable was accidentally disconnected while in sync mode now it won't let me move the slide to get into the iPod. It will let me load music, apps, and podcast through itunes but I can't get in the unit to see if it synced

So it's safe to assume the iPod shows up as a device in iTunes, right? I'd do a full restore, but make sure everything on the iPod is backed up somewhere before doing so to avoid lost files. Some info can be found here. The process will take a considerable amount of time if you have alot of files on your iPod.
