Ribbon Cable Repair question

OK so I was replacing my Ipod screen and I broke the ribbon cable by the volume buttons some how and when I plug it in to my computer like a question said on this website it responded but wont turn on, I would like to know why it didn't turn on? And also, what does the volume ribbon have to do with turning on my Ipod? My Ipod should be turning on even if the volume ribbon cable is ripped or broken some how, shouldn't it? Well if someone could get back to me with a good answer that would be great!!!

Also sometimes, my screen will turn plain white. Even though it doesn't work. PLEASE HELP!!!

Cjh, thank you for accepting my answer. I would suggest to replace that cable first, then work on the grey screen. Do one thing at a time, otherwise it can get very confusing.

Your welcome,and yes, it would be very confusing if i did 4 things at a time!! haha so if I am to buy a cable and the tools on Amazon would that work?? or do i have to buy them off here, because things are expensive on here, i just have to say:/

ok good because the prices on here...$24 for that cable and i can get it on amazon for like $2.75

Cjh, the reason for that is, that the cable is actually the volume and power button cable. So if it is tore, your iPod will not turn on. Replace the cable by using this guide. The cable itself is available right here as well as many other places. Hope this helps, good luck.

Hey, Oldturkey... if you plug the iPod into a computer/charger, would it then turn on (more or less a bypass of the physical power button) or is this cable more important than it would seem?

If it interrupts the circuit it will not turn on regardless of where the power comes from.
