Main Control Board
If the washer door won't unlock the problem might be the main control board. This is not common. Normally the problem is with the lock mechanism.
Unplug the machine for 5 minutes to let it reset and then plug it back in and give it a try.

Tried this it didn't work. I had the same problem as the previous person.
New washer used once then this second load it was locked the night after it was bought. Lid won't open tried to unplug Sears is coming out Wednesday we need clean clothes help. Towels are sour.

Washer won’t unlock, I unplugged it for 5 minutes, then plugged it back in and it still won’t unlock.
unplug for five minutes …if still locked push start button for a few seconds and it should unlock. Like cancelling your wash load.

Just 2 days of using my machine and it the lid.lock. tried to unpluck it do several times but still doesnt work
kenmore washing machine series 100 lid wont unlock repairman came out said have to replace lid $100 and labor $40 or more plus tax....
plus a $79 service fee charge to repairman we had to pay
Fixed this issue by power cycling the AC breaker! It worked like a charm. Needed a main AC reset.

Sarge, are you saying you can not unlock the lid? Or that the lid switch does not work? does your lid open?

I have this same problem and my washer is almost new. Had nothing but trouble out of this washer since I purchased it and will NEVER have another. Anyone know if there is a warranty on this thing? I didn't purchase the extended warranty because it was a huge percentage of the washer's price and didn't last long.

I have left the washer unplugged all night and the red light is still on and the lid will not unlock I am very upset with this washer I have had nothing but problems out of it making clicking noises and you sure can’t put very many clothes in it at a time to wash

I bought this Kenmore washer July 2013 and have had nothing but problems. Never again. Trying to open lid is a pain. Here I thought I was doing good for environment to save water with a sensor. No repairman can get here for one week. It sounds like Sears has an issue with washers. Never again. My first time tomorrow using a laundromat (however you spell it) since my last one broke down July 2013
