I replaced the power supply and the first LED is lit solid. When I hit the power button the 2nd and 3rd LED flash. I checked the power button connection and disconnected the inverter cable at which time the computer made a boot up sound all 4 LED's lit up and no video. When I hook the inverter cable up it returns to previous behaviour

Sounds to me like the cable or inverter is bad. Replaceing the cable is the cheaper place to start.
