A1278 Pro vs non-Pro LCD change

Considering replacing a damaged LCD on a MacBook Pro A1278 with a good LCD from an A1278 Non-Pro LCD. Do you think this will work?

Yes it will work fine. All A1278 LCDs are interchangeable, albeit of differing quality.

Louis is right. You can swap them between 13" models. Here's the part you would need:

MacBook Pro 13" Unibody LCD Panel

No, according to the product page for the Al Unibody MacBook it will only work in Al Unibody MacBooks, not in Pro's. You'll need this LCD for your MBP.

I used the main video cable from the macbook, for a macbook pro, it worked perfectly, I also used the glass.. the other cable, (the isight/airport cable) appeared to also be exactly the same, also the hinges were aligned the same it appeared...

i would say that you could use the entire LCD and lid from a macbook 1278 for a macbook pro 1278.

it appears to me that the only difference is the lettering on the glass, "Macbook" and "Macbook Pro"...

I switched the entire lid (LCD, lid and all) from a pro to a non-pro 1278 and got a strange problem... the display works and all but it gets really hot, it almost burns your fingers if you touch the lower parts of the LCD or the back. And i cant control the brightness, it is constantly on high and is super bright.

As far as I can tell, those two parts should be cross-compatible (aside from the fact that glass would have MacBook written on it instead of MacBook Pro). The LCDs and the LVDS cables are the same part so I would imagine that it should work to swap them like that. What was the reason for needing to replace the display assembly? Was there damage done to the computer?

I have a similar issue at hand...However the roles are reversed. I have a late-2008 A1278 Unibody MacBook. I seem to be having more luck finding reasonably priced A1278 MacBook Pro screens than MacBook screens. Reading the above post makes be wonder if this heat issue might have been unique or could happen agian...

Anybody else out there have experience replacing a A1278 MB lcd assembly with a MBP assembly? Thanks!
