Backlight out after dropped, front cover cracked but all commands stil

I cannot afford to replace front cover to see if backlight gets fixed. As far as I can see, only the backlight is inoperable. Able to change functions, just backlight not working. I did notice the area of the rear cover is slightly bowed at the volume up & down buttons.

Is there an easy way to troubleshoot or repair this issue only? Since my ex left, I have to be mom and dad. I am not afraid to take anything apart. Have repaired certain consoles for video games and I also killed a flip device, so got my lumps too!

Any sugesstions are greatly appreciated, thanks for any help!
