This means that the computer cannot find the startup disk, usually it's due to a bad HDD. First try to boot to your startup disk by holding option at startup, if you cannot boot to it, then try booting to your install disk and verifying/repairing the drive (most likely this will not work). This means you'll need a new hard drive, and if you need to run data recovery I suggest datarescue.
