Screen Flicker On/Off. Sometimes drops to lock screen.

Link to flicker video

I got this Tab S as a refurb less than 30 days go. As soon as I got it, I wiped it and updated to most current Android available OTA. After 25 days or so I started to get a flicker where the screen turns off and on. Sometimes it drops out into the lock screen and it flickers from their instead of the home screen. The first day it happened I rebooted and it went away. 2 days later it came back and won't stop. It could be anecdotal but it felt like if I gave it a gentle shake or even dropped it a few inches onto my bed the flicker went away. I thought perhaps there was a loose connection inside. This no longer appears to be the case. Today the flicker continues regardless of any shaking. I haven't installed any new apps or changed any settings since I initially set it up.

Do you think this is a mechanical failure inside? This is what I initially thought as giving it a shake seemed to make it go away. Would it be worth opening up and re-seating the connections? I can't find any tear down vids that go beyond replacing the battery so I'm sort of apprehensive about the connectors.

Alternatively I can return the device to Best Buy before the 30 day refurb warranty runs out. If I return it they will not replace it, they will only return the cost. Given that I got a good deal and have already invested additional money into a case and memory card I'd prefer to keep the device if it's fixable.

Additional Info: The battery and charger seem fine, I've seen other people complaining about battery jumping and flicker. This seems to be a different issue.

The display LCD and digitiser are fused together, so if you had to replace the screen it would cost quite a considerable amount - that's if you first check the connectors. Tearing down the device is medium to hard difficulty, you will need to remove most of the components to get to the display.

In the age of saving money and time I would suggest returning it for a refund and try to find another on eBay or something (I recently got one for £300 on eBay).

In the age of iFixit, tear it down, check the connectors and factory reset the device once again.

Hope this helps!

I had the same issue a few years back. I purchased mine new and was here looking for a fix. $800.00 is alot of money to put into this tablet for it to not work so soon after purchase from Best Buy. I really liked it when it worked properly. I am hoping for a fix also. I can’t afford another one and I will not buy any more tables. I have purchased two different brands and didn’t get my money worth.
