How do I install windows on this laptop after a HD reformat?

I received a laptop that was only booting to a grey screen and then freezing. I booted it up with a Linux boot cd that I had and reformatted the hard drive. I tried to install Windows Vista on the laptop, however after the Expanding Files reached 56%, the install cancelled. I have not been able to figure out what the issue is. I was able to boot with Hiren's Recovery CD into Mini Windows XP. Is it possible to perform an install of windows from here? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hello,

You could use a windows install disk. If your computer came with one, use that. If not, you could find a friend with the version of windows that you need and burn a recovery disk. When you use a recovery disk from the current state of your hard drive, you will want to enter the BIOS. I am not sure exactly which button it is on your computer, pressing delete repeatedly is usually universal. In boot options there is an option for it to boot from a cd. You will need to select this and save it in order for the computer to read the disk in the drive before the hard drive. Make sure the disk in in the drive and restart the computer. It might take a few minutes but it should start up in the version of windows that you made the repair disk from. If this does not work try reformatting the hard drive and try this process again.
