Why wont my laptop get to the home screen?
it turns on but when it does it gets to this dark screen with a underscore in the top left corner.

Are you able to get into the bios or UEFI?
Can you type anything on the cursor?

Does it make any beeping noise at the beginning? That would be an error code.
If you're not able to access bios/UEFI, to me, that would rule out a simple hard drive failure.
