Phone Wont Hold Charge

I have had my HTC One M8 since it came out first day on market and just recently it has stopped working on me. It wont charge and when it does, it overheats really fast and take a very long time to charge. Is there a way to fix this issue without spending $500 to $600 for a replacement?
